Hi, I’m Lauren Elgie and I share a love for both genetics and animals and was fortunate enough to be able to turn my passion into a specialised career.
For over 15 years now I have been working within the canine breeding and service dog industry. I am the Founder and Director of Career Dogs Australia, which offers support, education and quality working and breeding dogs to the service dog industry.
As the only Geneticist and Animal Breeding Specialist working in canine colony management and canine reproduction in the southern hemisphere, I have acquired a lot of expert knowledge in the canine breeding world. I also understand how complex it can be and the unforeseen challenges that can arise along the way.
My goal is to provide educational and emotional support for dog breeders. The specialist courses and materials I provide are all delivered online, allowing you, the breeder, to access these on your own time frame and undertake specialist training in the privacy of your own home.
A little about meβ¦
I spent many years avidly studying, engrossed in Genetics, Biochemistry, Animal Breeding and Animal Behaviour.
The late nights, 6-hour laboratory practicals, and back-breaking amount of text books was worth it!
As a Kiwi girl, I made the anticipated leap across the ditch after beginning my career at Guide Dogs in NZ.
I happily soaked up the sunshine in Australia; continuing my career as the Breeding and Dog Supply Manager at Guide Dogs QLD.
Overseeing the health and future direction of the 300+ dog colony was challenging yet rewarding. For nearly a decade I worked to ensure the successful breeding and development of service dogs.
From there, I went on to establish my own animal breeding consultancy called Max Genetics, which later evolved in to Career Dogs Australia…
Where, at one point, I worked on breeding some of the very first facility dogs that were placed internationally in roles within courthouses in the USA and children’s oncology wards in Japan.
I noticed the lack of information in the broader canine breeding community and how my knowledge could help guide breeders to more successful and responsible practices.
I spoke with breeders who communicated that their anxiety stemmed from a lack of experienced support. They had valuable input from their peers, but it was not the practical, professional information they were after.
Since launching Career Dogs Australia, I have been able to provide unique animal breeding and genetics consultancy to the service dog, domestic dog and performance dog industries within Australia.
Now I want to share my knowledge worldwide.
No matter where you are, you can access my courses and resources online.
